eL Paper Magazine is a thematic fanzine that displays the work of visual artists and writers, while striving to create open, creative dialogue between them and with the public at large. At the same time, it is an itinerant project that travels, recruiting artists and collaborators, organizing exhibitions, performances, walks, and readings with musical accompaniment. It was born in 2009 at the Local Project arts space in Long Island City, New York, with the idea of publishing the work of artists attending openings and events at the gallery but not necessarily showing work there. Nobody imagined that in these years eL Paper Magazine would publish the work of some 100 artists and writers from New York, but also from other places in the United States and Latin America, many of whom we didn’t know from before or met along the way. In the past we had the support of the Brooklyn Arts Council (BAC)and, more recently, private donations from a generous artist and collaborator. Currently, we are looking for funds to press a vinyl of music and poetry, reach a wider audience, and continue working always as part of Local Project programs.
